What types and alternatives are available for your saw?
Basically, there are three types of cutter shape available in most sizes of chain.
- Full chisel – a square edged tooth
- Semi chisel – a semi rounded cutting edge
- Tungsten tip teeth

Most straight shaft machines can handle a steel cutting blade if needed but beware steel blades are totally unforgiving. Whatever they hit, they cut or smash – or even worse smash the gearbox and drive shaft in your machine.
